Summer in September

We have been so lucky in New York to have 80 degree temperatures at the end of September.  It has been so nice to go outside without a jacket.  I've been fighting the cold so I just ran a few errands in the day since I was heading out for a family dinner later.  When I have to head out and I know I'll be walking around a bit, I try to be as comfortable as possible, especially when its warm outside.

These pants are perfect for that.  They are loose and cool and have pockets!  The graphic print keeps it interesting and I paired it with a simple blank tank top.  Threw on a long gold chain to add another dimension and pulled out my Cole Haan Tote that I purchased two winters ago.  Okay, it may seem strange that I want to be comfortable but I'm wearing heels that are 5 1/2" inches.  Honestly, they are extremely comfortable and I prefer to wear heels.  I am so used to it, that my feet actually hurt when I wear flats for too long.  I know...I'm a bit strange :)

Wedding Flow

The main reason for our trip to New Orleans was for a wedding of a close friend of mine.  I was so excited to be there and share in her day.  After moving to New York, I was on a trip in Trinidad with a few of my girlfriends from Miami and I met her at a party down there.  I found out that she lived in New York which was a great surprise to me since I moved to NY not having many close girlfriends here.  As soon as we were both back in town, we met up and she has been such a good friend to me ever since.  I have such great friends that I grew up with but when you find yourself in a new place, its really important to also find those you connect with and can lean on.  I truly found that in my friend Selam!  We got engaged within months of each other and got married in the same year....I can't wait for us to share in more of our life experiences to come.

I wore this navy blue Tahari dress that I bought back in November with this wedding in mind.  It is simple but elegant.  I love the color and it fits like a glove, maybe a bit too well.  It is also very comfortable which allows me to hit up the dance floor all night.  I love to dance and you can be sure to find me on the dance floor!  That is also why it is equally important for my shoes to be just as comfortable.  I paired this dress with black studded Brian Atwood heels that offer just the right height and amount of support.  If I can't dance in them, I won't buy them!

French Quarter

We made our way over to the French Quarter and made sure to get to Cafe Du Monde for thier famous beignets.  They were so good, I wish I could eat them every day!  There are so many cute boutiques and places to stop in for more desserts as well.  We made it over to Stanley for brunch where they have mega-marys!  I love Bloody Marys and I must admit, the one at Stanley was really good!  Just the right amount of spicy!

It was so warm out and I was able to still wear some of my summer staples.  This crop top with matching skirt is so versatile.  It is made of a heavier fabric which allows it to keep its shape while still keeping me cool.  This will have to be put away until next summer now since the weather in NY is much cooler.  Well, that will happen as soon as I unpack my suitcase.  It probably takes me even longer to unpack as it does to pack it for my trip.  Is anyone else as bad as unpacking or is it just me?

New Orleans!

I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans this past weekend with my husband.  It was great to get away and enjoy a much needed vacation.  This was my first time to New Orleans and it didn't disappoint.  There is so much to see and do.  The various neighborhoods all have their own flair and can range from a quiet stroll in the Garden District to bar hopping in the French Quarter.  The food scene is outrageous and I love trying new things.  I even ate alligator...I know, it sounds a bit odd but it really tastes just like chicken.  There were so many restaurants and bars that I wanted to try but I couldn't get to all of them.  This is definitely a city I look forward to returning to.

It was so nice and warm in New Orleans.  Being from Miami, I enjoy the warmth and am still getting used to the cold in New York.  We started our day with brunch in the Warehouse District at Chochon Restaurant and headed to the Garden District to stroll around and see all the Victorian architecture.  We then headed to Audobon Park and went Uptown for drinks at Cure.  I wore these colorful Nanette Lepore shorts with a light and airy Theory blouse.  I love to wear heels but I knew I would be walking for hours so I pulled out these flats by Aerosoles which are so cute to me and actually do have a slight heel on them.

I used to always have a hard time finding jeans to fit me the way I like.  I bought a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans years ago and I have not turned back since.  What I was never able to get away from was always having to hem my jeans.  My license says My height is 5'2" but i'm more like 5'1" on a good day!  Last summer, I thought I would try one of their cropped jeans and they ended up fitting right at the ankle where I wanted my regular length jeans to fit!  They may not look like cropped jeans on me but have found a way to find the perfect length without having to worry about getting my jeans hemmed.  To go with my jeans, I added a cropped top from my favorite boutique in Astoria, Hanger, and a crisp white Theory blazer.

Astoria Finds: Marketa

Met up with my cousin this weekend to celebrate his birthday and we headed to Marketa.  Its a new gastopub that opened on 30th Avenue.  There is a back patio and an upstairs private dining room.  I went for brunch and they offer a complimentary cocktail with your brunch entrĂ©e.  I like that they have a wide variety on their menu and not just the usual brunch items you see at so many restaurants.   One menu item is the Kitchen Sink with comes with french toast, eggs and short rib hash.  I, on the other hand, have a tendency to always order the eggs benedict, which i completely enjoyed.  They also offer unlimited drinks for an hour and a half for $15.  Marketa looks like the ideal location for big groups.

Blue & White

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  They always seem to fly by for me.  I spent this weekend having an impromptu get together at my place to watch the Mayweather fight and spent Sunday with family.  On Saturday, I also got together with a few cousins for brunch to celebrate my younger cousin's birthday.  It was pretty chilly and finally had to put a sweater on.  Its sad knowing that summer is really over.
My favorite color is pink but for some reason, I've noticed that I keep buying blue and white pieces.  They are such classic colors and go so well together.  I love the way these pants fit and you can never go wrong with a classic white blouse.  It is so versatile and a piece that I can constantly change up for work.  When I started studying for the CPA two years ago, I told myself I would get a Chanel purse as soon as I pass all four parts.  This purse was a gift to myself for finally passing this past January.  I think it is well deserved!

Astoria Finds: Front Towards Enemy Happy Hour

On the east side of Steinway, a new restaurant opened earlier this year that replaced CANZ sports bar.  Front Toward Enemy is a welcome change with live music, craft beers on tap, and a great atmosphere.  We enjoyed great service and took part in their happy hour which includes $5 sliders and selected cocktails for $9!  They also have an unlimited punch brunch on the weekends that we will definitely be back to try.

Dark Florals

Fall is slowly creeping up and summer will just be a distant memory.  I am definitely not ready for summer to end.  I've only lived in New York for three years and unfortunately, the winters have been increasingly colder each year.  Having only lived in warm weather climates before, it has definitely been an adjustment but I must admit, I do love the idea of fall and winter fashion, which is pretty much nonexistent in Miami.  So as the mornings get a little cooler, I have started throwing on blazers over my summer dresses which help with the weather as well make them work appropriate.  I found this dress in a small boutique sitting in the middle of the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and it is still one of my favorites.

My Real Return

I thought I would have been able to keep this up and study for the CPA, plan a wedding and work full time, but I had to let one thing go.  Now, over a year later, I have successfully passed the CPA exams, gotten married and started a new job.  But I always missed my blog.  It began and still is a hobby but I wasn't even able to carve out enough time.  Now, I want this to be one of the best parts of my day where I can creatively express myself and share my wardrobe choices as well.  I am an accountant by trade but I love fashion and heels.

For the past year, I spent 40 hours at work and an additional 25 hours a week studying.  How did I ever put together my wedding, I don't even know.  I planned the entire event myself with help from my husband and actually really enjoyed it.  I loved planning it and even added a lot of DIY to it.  I will make sure to share some of those later.  I had everything finished a week before and was able to relax and really enjoy every minute with family and friends.  It was the best experience of my life and I am happy to say that Astoria played such a large role in my wedding.  We wed in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Newtown Ave and the service couldn't be more beautiful.  We enjoyed dancing to tassa drums on the sidewalk after the service and then went to Midtown for our reception.

So now back to my husband and I took today off and were planning to venture to Brooklyn to go to the Botanical Gardens but the clouds began to take over and we decided to stay in, but not before I got dressed up!  Looking forward to sharing more of my life and everything I love about Astoria.
