White & Plaid

white jeans 7 for all mankind jeans

I'm not waiting for memorial day to wear my white jeans.  Who even came up with that rule?  It's warm and I like to wear white jeans so I am going to!  Actually, I never even knew about this rule until I moved to New York since we have no seasons in Miami.  I think the number one rule to follow is to wear whatever makes you happy!

Last Saturday, I went to a family get together by my aunts house.  It was sunny all day but still gets chilly at night.  This plaid long sleeve top from Zara is great for these transitional days.  Even in the summer, this will be great for the office because they love to put the A/C on full blast, which I believe is the culprit for the cold I currently have.   Right now are my cropped skinny jeans from 7 For All Mankind are on heavy rotation.  As I have mentioned before about my fascination with white clothes, i'm finding so many tops to pair with these.   Also, its time to pull out the strappy heels!  These sandals from JustFab are versatile and comfortable.  They take this outfit from casual to "ready for anything"!

Astoria Finds: Monika's Cafe Bar

Astoria brunch cafe

Spring finally arrived, a little later than I would have liked, but eating outside is here again.  These weekends are now spent walking around the neighborhood and exploring all the restaurants and shops we haven't even had a chance to try as yet.  Astoria is constantly growing and recently there is always something new opening but there are still so many places that have been here for a while that I have not made it out to.  For example, Monika's Cafe Bar found on 3290 36th Street is one such place.  It is not in the two block radius from where I live and is actually quite further from where I usually head to.  I have a bad habit of not venturing to far from my norm but I am going to make a habit of exploring this summer.

Monika's has a very laid back and relaxed atmosphere.  The outside is very simple but inside, the decor is colorful and cozy.  The service was friendly and prompt.  I had the shrimp tacos and they were well seasoned and full of flavor.  They also have a lot of vegetarian and gluten free options.  My Bloody Mary was also very spicy.  As long as I have a great Bloody Mary, I am happy!  Monika's is in a great location, it is close to the movie theater and the Museum of the Moving Image, which I am looking forward to visiting this summer.  Astoria is always surprising me and Monika's Cafe is no exception.

Great Gatsby

great gatsby white dress

I was fortunate to head home to Miami to attend one of my best friend's 40th Birthday Bash.  In true stylish fashion, she had a Great Gatsby themed birthday party.  It was fabulous, everyone came out in their best 20's attire and the decorations were incredible.  She had a champagne bar and a dessert bar that I had to pry myself away from.  I was honored to help her with her dress search for her big day.  I knew the birthday girl had to wear gold!  I am so happy she trusted me to find the right look for her party.  She looked magnificent and enjoyed her party to the fullest.

I wore a simple beaded white dress from Hanger Boutique in Astoria.  I glammed it up with a glitzy necklace from Topshop as well as a hairpiece from Topshop that added to the 20's flair.  The lightness and airiness of this dress was perfect for those hot nights in Miami.  This was one of the best weekends I've had in Miami since I've left by far.  I spent time with some of my closest friends and was able to celebrate an important night with my girl!  These are the memories that I won't ever forget.

White dress

Zara dress gucci clutch

So I made my husband get dressed up and take me to the hall where we had our wedding reception with the idea of taking pictures for our one year anniversary.  He went along with my mushiness and we were able to take great pictures on the rooftop.  This was important to me because it rained on our wedding day so we didn't have the opportunity at the time to take pictures out there even though the rain didn't hamper the celebration at all.  It was so nice being there and it just made me want to do it all over again, which he quickly vetoed!  I can't believe a year has passed by so quickly but look forward to many more and all that it has to offer.

Ever since I got engaged, I started an obsession with white dresses and it hasn't stopped yet.  I found this lace dress at Zara while in Milan and fell in love.  I love wearing white, even though I am clumsy and it never fails that I will spill something on myself when I am wearing white.  I think it exudes a wholesome, crisp appearance that I like.  Just the simplicity of it appeals to me.  This lace dress is loose fitting and not constricting which added to its comfort.  For these pictures, I once again wore my wedding shoes.  It is great to get so many wears out of these heels!  Also, my set from Rocksbox matched perfectly with this outfit.  One year later and once again, in a white dress and wedding shoes!  Hmmm, I may have to treat myself to a new white dress for my anniversary every year!
