Mosaic Stairs

16th avenue Mosaic steps

For the President's Day holiday weekend, my husband and I took a trip to San Francisco.  I hadn't been to the west coast in such a long time and it was great to be back.  I lived in Los Angeles for two years before I moved to New York and it was one of the best experiences in my life.  It was the first time moving to a city where I knew absolutely no one.  That really gave me the opportunity to unwind and really focus on the person that I wanted to truly be.  I made so many great friends and learned so much about myself.  Going to San Francisco reminded me of all the good times I had in LA and it was even nice this time because I shared it with my husband.

There is so much to see in San Francisco, the city is gorgeous.  There are the touristy spots such as Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Alcatraz, and Lombard Street which I made sure to take my husband to but there are also many great finds such as the 16th Avenue Tiled Mosaic Steps in the Golden Gate Heights Neighborhood.   These beautifully crafted mosaic steps were a community project that after 163 steps, leads to an incredible view of the city.  This project was inspired by the famous steps in Brazil and does not disappoint.  The sun was shining and it made climbing these stairs all worth it, I changed into sneakers for the climb :)

To spend this lovely day, I kept it casual and loose fitting.  I purchased these "jogger" pants from Hanger Boutique in Astoria as well as the sweater.  Even though it was sunny, it tends to get chilly very quickly and this sweater came in handy.  I do tend to wear more fitted pants but recently I am leaning towards looser and relaxed fits.  Its nice to feel comfortable and even though this is casual, it still has a cute and edgy look to it.  What do you think about the loose fitting pants, would you wear them?

Pink & Pink

Chloe Drew mini

I didn't plat to get much wear out of this sweater that I bought it last minute while in Milan last year because I was so cold that I had to run into H&M to layer up.  This winter has me pulling out every sweater I own and this pink one has become one of my favorites.  Being a lover of pink, I layered with all my pink pieces for this pink extravaganza!  My pink sweater, scarf and hat pair well with numerous items in my closet, but today I wore them with Tahari leggings and a simple white button down blouse.  To match the gold chain on my Chloe bag, I wore this gold pendant necklace form Sterling Forever.  Sterling Forever has a mix of easy to wear pieces that are inspired by fashion runway trends but at affordable prices.  My Tahari wool coat and Theory boots finish this look for a day out in the cold.

Leather skirt

grey thigh high boots Astoria in Heels

The beginning  of the year also marks another birthday for me and I like to make sure I start the year off right.  While it is not a huge birthday milestone like 30 or 40, I still enjoy celebrating as much as possible.  Maybe even too much.  I started my pre-birthday celebration with a boozy brunch with friends and followed up at a party on the night of my birthday.  That Thursday night was probably one of my best birthdays ever!  I had my close friends there and my husband made sure the whole evening was special.  I couldn't ask for more!

For the pre-celebration, I rocked my new hat from Goorin brothers.  This hat matched my thigh high boots perfectly.  A black leather skirt and black sweater were a great contract to my grey Stuart Weitzman boots and hat.  I scored this leather skirt on sale at Zara and this is an old sweater.  This skirt is really comfortable and comes with pockets.  I've already mixed and matched this skirt a few times and even dressed it up for work.  These thigh high boots always make a statement and they set the mood for a great day of celebrations.
