Hudson, New York

Hudson New York Road Trip

Today is my 2nd wedding anniversary and since we have a trip planned for later in April, we wanted to do something low key to celebrate.  Since I moved to New York, I haven't had the opportunity to venture out to all the many towns that are within driving distance.  We decided to take a road trip to Hudson, New York.  The years have gone by so quickly and I feel as though I have been so busy and haven't had as much down time as I would have liked.  With that said, my husband and I just wanted to take a relaxing trip where we could just enjoy each others time.

We got to Hudson, early Saturday and checked into where we would be staying.  The main plan was to relax and unwind.  That is just what we did.  We drove over to the Olana State Historic site and walked around its vast landscape.  The house was quite majestic and the views were incredible.  From there we walked along Warren Street and found a great pizza spot, Baba Louie's.  Their pizza's are delicious and my mouth is watering just thinking about them.  Afterwards, we ventured into a few antique shops and then headed back to where we were staying.  We stayed in and enjoyed a movie.  Even as simple as it was, I feel like we don't really get the opportunity to sit back and to these things when we are home. This trip is just what I needed!

It was chilly up there in Hudson so I made sure to pack a warm sweater.  We were going to be walking around mainly so I kept it very casual.  As you know, I love to wear white so I threw on my cropped white jeans, slip on sneakers and this leather jacket for extra warmth.  This was a simple outfit that can easily be thrown together.

Blue & Grey Sweater Dress

Time has sprung forward and it seems as though time is not just moving forward but actually flying by way too quickly.  Its mid-March and in one month, taxes are already due.  When did this all happen, I better start preparing my taxes soon!  Luckily I am able to do them myself.  Before I get down to it, I start off each year with an updated financial fitness plan.  Having a background in Accounting is helpful but I have just always been a very budget minded person.  Before I purchase any of these outfits, purses, or accessories, i make sure to have it all planned out financially.  I thought I would spend time this post giving some ideas and tips of how I plan my finances for the year.

First and foremost, there is a budget.  I know it might sound crazy, but I have my budget mapped out for the entire year.  I have certain amounts automatically deducted and sent straight to an online savings account twice a month.  Because I have my budget for the year, I can determine how much I can save on a monthly basis.  Once I have this amount, I am better able to manage the remaining amount that is left over after any monthly bills.  From there, I also set aside specific amounts that I allocate to different spending buckets such as travel or home purchases.  Budgeting has been key for me to manage my clothing purchases.  Having the big picture in front of you in a budget allows me to know how much can be allocated to clothing and other splurge items.

Sorry, didn't want to bore you with too much budget talk but I get asked about this often and I hope it was helpful.  I will try to dive it to other aspects of how I keep my finances in order in future posts as well.  Now about my outfit :)  With the up and down weather changes, I constantly grab this sweater dress.  It is a tea length dress with long sleeves and if it gets too cold, I just throw on a leather jacket over.  The grey and blue diagonal lines are flattering and go perfect with this Angela Roi handbag.  These ankle boots add a bit of edginess to the dress.  I love wearing dresses and this has easily become one of my favorites!

Astoria Finds: Sac's Place

Astoria is constantly growing and redefining itself.  One restaurant that is growing along with it is Sac's Place, located at 2541 Broadway, on the corner of Broadway and 29th Street.  This restaurant has been in Astoria since 1989 serving quality Italian cuisine and coal-oven pizzas.  The owners, Anthony and Domenico Sacramone, are Astoria natives and have watched the neighborhood evolve and has had their restaurant remain a stronghold in the community.  I have ordered their pizzas many times and they never disappoint.  So when I heard they were creating a new brunch menu inspired by their pizzas, I was thrilled.  I had the pleasure of tasting a few of the items that will be on their new menu and I can't wait to go back for more.

Sac's Place will start serving brunch this weekend and will feature their breakfast pizzas.  There is the Porky Pig pizza that has mozzarella cheese, bacon, sausage and pepperoni for the meat lovers and there is the Veggie which is topped with fontina cheese, sautéed artichokes, mushrooms and roasted tomatoes.  The Veggie was my personal favorite!  All of the breakfast pizzas had their own delicious taste and are never greasy.  The staff is so friendly and they spent the time explaining that most of their ingredients are fresh from a family farm in Pennsylvania.  Fresh ingredients make these top notch pizzas.  Make sure to head out there this weekend for their brunch special which includes one brunch entree, coffee or tea, home fries, and one cocktail with a refill all for $17.95.  I love a good deal when I find one and this neighborhood gem is here to stay!!!

Angela Roi Handbags

Angela Roi Handbags

I have been blogging for over a year now and I have met so many great people.  My favorite part of blogging is meeting and connecting with others that share similar interests.  Being able to give back is important and one amazing company that I had the honor of working with this year is Angela Roi.  Angela Roi is known for making handbags for women with a purpose.  This company is a philanthropihc dream come true where they make beautiful bags from vegan leather.  Their minimalist design is trendy and fashionable.  In addition to creating gorgeous bags that are animal free, Angela Roi donates a portion of each bags sale to non-profit organizations that support prevalent health issues.  The various handbag colors each represent a different cause.  For example, their white handbags support lung cancer and the green ones support anxiety and depression.

When they reached out to me to be part of a campaign, I jumped at the opportunity.  I styled two outfits to wear with two separate bags.  The first bag I styled is the Moa Tote.  This classy tote has a contrasting wine colored handle that works in every season.  It is spacious and sturdy.  The quality is exceptional and is also lined with suede for that soft, luxurious feel.  I kept my outfit simple to let the bag do all the talking.  I wore black Zara leggings with a white sleeveless top from Black Market White House.  To play off of the colors from the bag, I wore this vegan leather jacket from Macy's and wine colored booties from JustFab.  I am honored to work with this company and highly recommend these handbags.  Its rare to find well made bags that are affordable and stylish and on top of that, support great causes.

Faux Fur Poncho

Mirina girls Astoria in heels

Ponchos and throws have been my main accessories this winter.  Adding this faux fur one to my arsenal was one of the best things I did for my wardrobe.  Its a throw, its a scarf, and its a poncho. You can even belt it and wear it as a vest.  The best part is that I purchased this from the Good Morning America deals and steals episodes.  I love a deal!  You can catch me curled up in this on the couch on any given night!

Napa Valley

Napa Valley California

Napa Valley is now officially one of my favorite places!  It is insanely beautiful and the environment is serene and calming.  I had the pleasure of spending Valentine's day there and it was lovely.  The weather was surprisingly warm for that time of year and the mustard flowers were in full bloom.  I had to pull over once I saw this field of yellow.  It was a scene I had never imagined and couldn't wait to immerse myself in.  Places like this are so heavenly and I couldn't have had a more romantic holiday!

Luckily for me, the sun was shining and I was able to go bare-shoulders.  This maxi dress is an old favorite of mine.  It is so versatile, it can be dressed up for a night out for worn on a sunny day.  I always find myself gravitating towards light fabrics.  I don't want to worry about the material sticking to me and this allows me to walk freely.  I wore simple wedge sandals and a sun hat for protection.  We only spent one day in Napa and I am counting down until I go there again!

Andrea
